The
Starlight Goodwill Ambassadors from Taiwan is a program aimed at forming global
friendship and cultural exchange with students around the world. This program
is operated jointly by the MMC Starlight Group of company and Starlight
Education Foundation, in direct partnership with many public schools in Taiwan.
The core value of this program is to enhance the ability of students to
interact with people around the world in English thereby elevating their future
international competitive edge.
The
Starlight Goodwill Ambassadors, including 40 students aged 8-16 from 15
different schools and their teachers and parents, visited Houston from April
26th to the 29th, before their trip to join the St. Louis Storytelling
Festival. They also took this opportunity to visit Ed White Elementary School
and Sharpstown International School.
Sharpstown
Principal Mrs. Thuy M. Le-Thai and Ed White Elementary Principal Ms. Paulette
Caston each signed a respective Memorandum of Understanding alongside Taiwanese
Hui Wen Elementary Principal Chin-Mei Tseng.
The
Houston Independent School District is one of the most diverse school districts
in the United States and, as such, has always encouraged and welcomed global
educational interaction and collaboration. HISD is happy to see the intention
to deepen partnership between educational institutions in Taiwan and Houston.
Based
on the strong partnership between the Education Division of the Taipei Economic
and Cultural Office in Houston and HISD, we anticipate further connection and
interaction will commence after these formal visits, and the signing of the MOU.
