The 2016 Networking Dinner for Taiwanese
Young Scholars, Professionals, and Taiwan Alumni Association in the Southern
United States was held On October 14, 2016 at Hess Club in Houston. This dinner
was sponsored by the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Houston and the
Center for International Studies at the University of St. Thomas.
The Texas Secretary of State, the Honorable
Carlos H. Cascos, was invited to speak about the state’s strategic efforts to
recruiting global skill sets and talents. “My role is to convince them to make
Texas their home. I believe that Texas is a land of opportunity for everyone
regardless what their background is. It doesn’t matter where they come from or
who they are. ” said the Secretary Carlos H. Cascos.
Over a hundred outstanding Taiwanese young
scholars and Ministry of Education sponsored students from 11 universities in
Texas and Louisiana, along with the members of the Taiwan Alumni Association
joined this dinner and shared their experiences of career path and professional
development. The Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in
Houston, Louis Huang, gave a warm welcome to all Taiwanese young scholars
during the dinner. He said that Taiwan government encourages the Taiwanese
students to broaden their horizons and enrich their knowledge in many aspects.
Young people are important assets of the country. It is always a priority for
us to make efforts in assisting them to reach their dream, no matter where they
are.
This dinner provides an opportunity to network with the young scholars and emerging professionals in the Taiwanese community, as well as the members of the Taiwan Alumni Association of the Southern United States. The attendees all enjoyed the delicate dinner, stirring speech, and inspiring conversations together during this event.
