Asia Society Texas Center together with co-sponsor Taipei
Economic and Cultural Office, Education Division present a three-hour workshop
to bring together experts, teachers, and leaders in education to address the
growing presence of Mandarin education and implementation in local school
curriculum. The featured keynote speaker will be Dr. Terry Grier,
Superintendent of Houston Independent School District. During 2014 Dr. Grier
was a finalist for the National Superintendent of The Year Award by the
American Association of School Administrators as well as “State Superintendent
of the Year” for California and North Carolina; he will speak about the “Road
to Global Competency”. He is joined by a panel of language experts that will
discuss Mandarin education in the digital age, the usage of language tools
through singing, and collaboration to help foster a stronger community in
Mandarin education.
In addition
to the speakers, the workshop will include a variety of interactive activities,
including: exhibition booths, hands-on activities for the classroom, networking
opportunities, door prizes, and a tea ceremony. This workshop is recognized by
the Texas Association for the Gifted & Talented, TAGT as two hours’ worth
of training in gifted education.

The Education
Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston promotes
educational exchanges between Taiwan and eight states in the southern part of
the United States including Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi,
Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.
